Plans and billing

Playlistation has three plans: Free, Plus and Pro. The plan sets how many smart playlists stay active, how many filters each one can use, how much of your Liked Songs is monitored, and how often playlists refresh. Everything about it lives on the Subscription page in the app: open Subscription at the bottom of the sidebar, or from the Account tab on mobile.

Active playlists counts the smart playlists Playlistation keeps in sync. At the limit, the Playlists page shows "You've reached your quota of 5 playlists" and the create button disappears until you delete a playlist or upgrade.

Filters per playlist is how many filters count during an update. You can keep more on a playlist, but the ones past the limit are shown as disabled and ignored. See Combining filters.

Liked tracks monitored is how far back into your Liked Songs Playlistation looks, starting from your most recent like. Older likes are never checked against your filters, and the Playlists page warns you when your library is bigger than the limit. See How syncing works.

Playlists refreshed every is how often each playlist is updated, as a target: the update job runs every minute and spreads the playlists on a plan across that window, and load or Spotify's rate limits can push one back a little. See How syncing works.

Premium filters are the nine filters that read Spotify's audio analysis or the language of the lyrics; the nine others work on every plan. See Premium filters.

Custom playlist description lets you write the description shown on Spotify. On the Free plan every playlist carries the Playlistation-branded line "Created using playlistation.com" instead.

Prices

Plus is $3 a month or $30 a year. Pro is $10 a month or $100 a year. Prices are in US dollars. The Monthly and Yearly toggle above the cards switches between the two, and the same prices are on the pricing section of the website. Checkout asks for a billing address, and Stripe adds sales tax or VAT when your country requires it. If you have a promotion code, there is a field for it at checkout.

The Free plan needs no card and does not expire.

Subscribing

  1. Open the Subscription page and pick Monthly or Yearly.
  2. Click Buy on the Plus or Pro card.
  3. You are sent to Stripe Checkout with the email of your Spotify account already filled in. Pay there.
  4. Stripe brings you back to the Subscription page. Your plan switches as soon as Stripe confirms the payment, usually within a few seconds.

Payment is handled by Stripe. Playlistation never sees your card number. See Security and privacy.

Managing your subscription

On a paid plan, the top of the Subscription page shows your plan, its status (Active or Cancelling), the price and the Next renewal date, with four buttons under it. Manage plan, Payment method and Invoices all open Stripe's billing portal in a new tab, where you can change plan, update your card and download every invoice. Cancel plan starts the cancellation flow described below.

To move between Plus and Pro, or between monthly and yearly, click Buy on the card you want. Stripe shows you the change and asks you to confirm it before anything is charged.

Cancelling

Cancel plan opens Stripe's cancellation flow. Your subscription is not cut off on the spot: it runs until the end of the period you paid for, then stops. Until then the card says Cancelling and shows an Ends on date, the page shows "Your subscription is scheduled for cancellation", and the Free card reads "Scheduled for" that date. You keep every feature of the paid plan until then. On that date you move to the Free plan automatically and the changes below apply.

Deleting your account is different: the subscription is cancelled immediately and any days left in the period are lost. See Deleting your account.

What happens when you downgrade

Nothing is deleted. Your playlists stay on Spotify and in Playlistation. What changes is what the new plan is allowed to keep in sync:

  • Playlists over the quota stop updating but keep their tracks on Spotify. The ones you created first stay active. They return to Active on their own as soon as a slot is free, whether because you upgraded again or deleted another playlist.
  • Filters past the new limit are ignored. They stay on the playlist, marked as disabled in the editor, and count again if you upgrade.
  • Premium filters are ignored on the Free plan. A playlist whose filters are all premium is parked in Error; it leaves Error when you upgrade again or edit it.
  • A custom description stays as it is, but you cannot edit it until you are back on a paid plan.
  • Only your 1,000 most recent likes are monitored on the Free plan.

The mechanics of the Disabled and Error statuses are in Playlist statuses. A disabled filter or a parked playlist is explained on the playlist page itself, and Troubleshooting lists the fixes.
