Installing the app

There is no Playlistation app in the App Store or on Google Play, and there does not need to be one: the site installs itself. Add it to your home screen and it gets its own icon, opens without the browser's address bar and sits in the app switcher next to your other apps. It is the same app at the same address, with the same account and the same playlists — only the frame around it changes.

On iPhone and iPad

1. Open playlistation.app in Safari.
2. Tap Share, the square with an arrow, in the toolbar.
3. Scroll the list of actions and tap Add to Home Screen.
4. On iOS 26 and later, leave Open as Web App on. Turned off, the icon is a plain bookmark that opens in Safari like any other page.
5. Change the name if you want, then tap Add.

The icon lands on your Home Screen and in the App Library. From iOS 16.4 you can do this from any browser, not only Safari: Chrome, Edge and Firefox each carry Add to Home Screen in their own share menu.

The app asks you to sign in. A Home Screen web app has its own storage, separate from the browser you added it from, so a session already open in Safari does not carry over: the first launch opens on the sign-in screen and you go through Spotify again. It is one extra sign-in, not a second account — the playlists, the plan and the settings are the ones on your account. What it does add is a row on the Devices page, because every sign-in is a session.

On Android

1. Open playlistation.app in Chrome and sign in.
2. Tap ⋮ (More), to the right of the address bar.
3. Choose the install entry. Chrome has renamed it more than once: recent versions read Install and create shortcut, older ones Install app or Add to Home screen.
4. Confirm with Install.

Chrome installs it as a real app rather than a bookmark: the icon goes to your home screen and your app drawer, it opens without the address bar, it gets its own card in the app switcher, and Android lists it under Settings → Apps like anything from the Play Store. Samsung Internet and Firefox have the same command in their own menus.

Unlike on iPhone, you stay signed in. The installed app runs on the browser you installed it from and shares its storage, so it opens straight on your playlists.

On a computer

Chrome and Edge: the install icon at the right of the address bar, or Install page as app in the ⋮ menu. Safari on macOS Sonoma or later: File → Add to Dock. Either way you get a window of its own, in the Dock or the taskbar.

What changes, and what does not

It updates itself. There is no store update to wait for or install: the app is served from the web every time you open it, so you always have the current version. The one in Settings → Version is the one you are running.

It needs a connection. There is no offline mode: without a network the app cannot reach your library, and the browser shows its own offline page. Nothing is lost by that. The syncing happens on our servers, not on your phone, so your playlists keep following your likes whether the app is open, closed or uninstalled. See How syncing works.

It sends no notifications. Playlistation never pushes anything to your phone, installed or not. Playlist updates are silent, and the app shows what changed the next time you open it.

Your account is untouched. Installing is a change to your phone, not to your account: the same plan, the same playlists, the same settings, on every device you use.

Removing it

Touch and hold the icon and delete it, as you would for any app; on Android you can also drag it to Uninstall. That removes the app and its data from the phone, and nothing else — your playlists keep running and your other devices stay signed in.

It does not end the session either: that device stays on the Devices list until you sign it out there or it expires on its own. Sign it out first if you are giving the phone away.
