When was a Spotify playlist created?
Spotify's Web API, the interface apps use to read playlists, gives a playlist no creation date. What it records is the date and time each song was added. The oldest of those dates is the closest you can get: on desktop, sort the playlist by Date added.
Source: Get Playlist, in Spotify's developer documentation.
Find the oldest song on desktop
- Open the playlist in the Spotify desktop app.
- Click the Date added column header to sort by it. Click it again to reverse the order, oldest first.
- The date on the first row is when the oldest song still in the playlist was added.
If the column is hidden, widen the app's window: Spotify shows more columns on a wider screen, and it remembers your sort for next time (Sort and filter).
Why it is only a clue
- If the first songs were removed, the oldest remaining date is later than the day the playlist was created.
- Spotify's documentation notes that some very old playlists return no date at all for the songs they hold.
- A playlist created empty and filled later shows the day of the first song, not the day of creation.
The same date for your Liked Songs
Spotify records the same "added" date when you like a song. Playlistation reads it: the Liked date filter builds a playlist of the songs you liked in a period, for example the last 30 days or a given year.
For the playlists Playlistation creates, the History panel has a Playlist created entry with the date. It exists only for playlists created since the history started being recorded, on 2 October 2026, and Free and Plus show the last 30 days of history, so on an older playlist that entry may be out of view.
